Steps to make Indian Style Raw Mango & Drumsticks Dal Curry:
- Clean and wash the lentils.
- Pressure cook the lentils for 2-3 whistles with enough water, half of the chopped onions, a pinch of asafoetida, and salt until the dal is cooked completely.
- Remove from flame and allow the pressure to release. Mash the dal slightly and keep it aside.
- In a saucepan, add the mango slices, drumsticks, turmeric powder, and salt and cook until the pieces are soft and cooked.
- Keep this aside.
- Heat oil in a pan. Splutter mustard seeds, cumin seeds, curry leaves, & dry red chilies.
- Add the chopped onions and saute until translucent. Add crushed garlic, green chilies, and asafoetida. Saute for a minute.
- Add the chopped tomatoes and saute until they are soft and mushy.
- Add the mashed dal, mangoes, and drumsticks. Add water if the dal is too thick.
- Add the freshly grated coconut and simmer for a 3-4 mins. Remove from flame.
- Serve hot with steamed rice and side dish of your choice.
