The ingredients needed to make Sambhar:
  1. Take 1 cup toor dal
  2. Make ready 1/2 cup chana dal
  3. Make ready 2 carrots

  19. Prepare 1 tsp Kashmiri red chilli powder

  21. Prepare 8-10 curry leaves

I love idli with chetney and sambhar.i will try this rrcepie. I make this Sambhar with Toor dahl, and eat it with rice for the main meal of the day. Steps to make Sambhar:
  1. Mix both dals and soak for 30 minutes.
  2. Cut vegetables according to your choice. I cut into large cubes.
  3. In pressure cooker take dals, turmeric powder, salt and other vegetables. Pressure cook it high flame. Take one whistle on high flame and second one in low flame, when third whistle is about to come turn off the gas and keep it aside.
  4. When cooker released all pressure, check dals. It's cooked perfectly not overcooked nor raw. This is the perfect mixture for sambar.
  5. In a bowl mix tamarind and hot water, rest it for about 30 minutes. After that mess it well and strain. We get a thick tamarind pulp.
  6. Heat dal mixture and add tamarind pulp according to your taste, I take 1 tbsp pulp and mix well. Put it on low flame.
  7. In a tadka pan heat oil put hing and mustard seeds saute for a few couple of seconds than add curry leaves and red chilli powder saute till crackles now add Kashmiri red chilli powder and sambar masala saute one minute and mix into dal mixture.
  8. Simmer it for 5-8 minutes adjust the consistency of sambar and other masala according to your taste. Tasty sambar is ready to serve. Serve hot with idli or dosa.
