River state native soup is one of my favorite Nigerian soup, it happens to be my favorite native soup and one of the most popular soup from Niger Delta, Nigeria. I grew up in River state Nigeria, did both. Rivers Native Soup is a gift from the people of Rivers State in the Niger Delta Area of Nigeria. These are the riverine people that use the freshest seafood to prepare expensive soups and meals.

To begin with this particular recipe, we have to first prepare a few ingredients. You can cook native soup using 10 ingredients and 7 steps. Here is how you can achieve it.

The ingredients needed to make Native soup:
  1. Make ready 1 cup sliced uziza leave
  2. Take palm oil
  3. Get 1 fresh fish
  4. Get 2 cubes. of maggi
  5. Make ready 2 cups periwinkles
  6. Get 1 cup crayfish
  7. Make ready salt
  8. Prepare pepper
  9. Prepare canda
  10. Take stock fish

Widely popular in Rivers state, although its origin is unknown, locals often refer to it as Fisherman soup (and we'd settle with that.). Native soup is commonly seen in River State. Growing up in Port Harcourt, I was opportune to eat some of their indigenous dishes including this though i can't say the history of the soup. My mum being an Ilesha woman does not joke with her native egusi soup just like every typical Ilesha woman out there.

Steps to make Native soup:
  1. Clean the fish then wash it with hot water, soak the stock fish inside hot water.
  2. Scrub the canda then wash it.
  3. Parboil the fish we the necessary ingredients. 2 cubes of maggi, one bulb of onions, pepper and salt.
  4. Wash and slice the uziza leave, grind the crayfish and fresh pepper.
  5. Add the stock fish in the boiling fish on fire, after 30min of cooking just the fish once the water is almost dried..add 3cups of water, palm oil and the ground crayfish.

  7. Add the ofof, allow to dissolve in 8-10 min..cook for 3min before adding periwinkles and slice uziza leave. Allow to simmer for 5 min

Growing up in Port Harcourt, I was opportune to eat some of their indigenous dishes including this though i can't say the history of the soup.
