This aloo dimer dalna or potato egg curry is more of a lighter consistency and goes well with rice or chapathis. The recipe is very simple and requires less ingredients. Dimer Dalna is the ultimate Bengali Egg Curry prepared with boiled eggs that are fried and then cooked with onion, potatoes, tomatoes and Egg curry is extremely popular in India and every region has it's own version. While I can happily go for any version of egg curry, for me this Bengali Style.
Steps to make Oler Dalna/ Bengali style Yam Curry:
- Peel off the skin of potatoes and yams. Cut them into cubes. Perboil the potatoes and set aside. Put the yams in water. Add 1 tsp lime juice. Boil them till yam cubes become soft.
- Put 2-3 tsp mustard oil in pan. As smoke comes out, temper the oil with 1 tsp Jeera.
- Put the potato cubes for frying. After few minutes, add the yam cubes. Fry everything for few minutes.
- Cut the tomato and ginger slice and make a paste. Put 1 Cup grated coconut in the pan.
- Add the masala paste.
- Add 1 Cup Black Chickpeas in the pan. (soak black Chickpeas overnight in water. Next morning pressure cook the chickpeas till the chickpeas become soft).
- Add 1 tsp turmeric powder, salt and sugar to taste, 1 Tsp Coriander Powder and mix everything.
- Cook till raw smell of the masala goes away. Add water as much needed. Cook till water absorbs the masala.
- Sprinkle 1 Tsp Garam Masala Powder and finish cooking.
- Cover with a lid and keep it covered for few minutes. Serve after with hot rice.
