Super flavorful rasam with just the skin, no orange juice. I wanted to try this when my Co sis sent a recipe. I made a few tweaks to Romney's original recipe, and they are reflected below. I use whole wheat pastry flour here, but you can use unbleached all-purpose flour, or a blend of both if you like.

Instructions to make Oats and orange rasam:
  1. Blend 1 cup chopped oranges, 1 tbsp chopped ginger, 1 tbsp chopped garlic, 1 cup chopped tomatoes, 2 tbsp chopped celery leaves, 1 green chilli, 4-5 curry leaves, 1 tsp cumin seeds, 1 tsp mustard seeds, 1/2 tsp asafoetida, 1/2 tsp orange zest and 5-6 black peppercorns in a mixer jar. Keep it aside
  2. Melt 2 tbsp homemade ghee in a pan. Add 1 tsp urad daal and mix.
  3. Then add the blended paste, 1 cup oats powder, 1 bowl vegetable stock, 2 bowls of water and remove all the lumps.
  4. Add 1 tsp tamarind pulp, salt as per taste, cover and let it simmer. Once done serve hot.
